A Gorgeous Fall Train Ride
Fall is arguably the best time of year to visit Sedona. With mild weather, fewer crowds, and sensational beauty everywhere you turn, it’s easy to see why, too. One of our favorite ways to get out and explore Sedona in the fall is via the Verde Canyon Railroad.
The Verde Canyon Railroad is a wonderful throwback to the rail-travel era, taking you on a scenic journey into Sedona’s backcountry – including some areas that are only accessible via train or foot. It’s been called one of America’s most breathtaking and scenic journeys, and it’s easy to see why.
The Verde Canyon Railroad is just one of the marvelous things waiting for you in Sedona this fall. It’s also prime season for hiking, biking, and exploring the beautiful red rocks – not to mention packing in plenty of relaxation at our Sedona Bed and Breakfast.
With welcoming red rock views from every corner of our Inn, and exceptional hospitality throughout your stay, there’s simply no better place to stay in Sedona than the Canyon Villa Inn Bed and Breakfast. Ride the Verde Canyon Railroad
The Verde Canyon Railroad is a magical 4-hour journey aboard a vintage train that takes you through Arizona’s Verde Canyon. The train travels between the cities of Clarkdale and Perkinsville, which is only a short 20-mile stretch of track. However, the train travels at low speeds so that you can marvel at the stunning scenery surrounding you throughout the journey.
The ride aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad has been called one of the most scenic rides of its kind. Along the way, you can expect to see towering canyon walls, the Verde River, ancient Indian Ruins, a 680-foot man-made tunnel, old trestles, historic mining encampments, and plenty of wildlife, including the resident bald eagles that call this area home.
During the first half of the ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad, the staff will narrate the important sights you’re passing and explain how some of these beautiful landscapes were formed. The Verde Canyon itself is only accessible by train or by foot, which means not many people have the opportunity to see this untouched wilderness. It’s truly a magnificent sight to behold.
Apart from the normal scenic rides offered throughout the year, the Verde Canyon Railroad also offers a variety of fun and seasonal rides. Right now, the Verde Canyon Railroad is offering Ales on Rails, an Oktoberfest celebration/beer festival you don’t want to miss. Throughout October, they’re offering Fright Night rides on the Verde Canyon Railroad from Thursday – Saturday nights. In November and December, they offer the Magical Christmas Journey rides.
