Sedona Area State Parks

Enjoy Lodging near Hiking, Birding, Biking, & More

Sedona and neighboring Cottonwood are home to 3 major Arizona State Parks. These parks are all unique and offer wonderful opportunities for hiking, picnicking, birding, and photography.

Red Rock State Park
Open 7 days a week from 8 am - 5 pm. The Visitor Center is open 9 am - 5 pm daily. There is a Natural History Museum, a movie theatre, and regularly scheduled guided walks. The mission of the park is to preserve the riparian (wetland) habitat associated with Oak Creek; to serve as an environmental education facility; and to provide limited passive recreational opportunities.

Slide Rock State Park
This park is especially popular in the hot summer months. Located in beautiful Oak Creek Canyon, it was homesteaded land from the turn of the century that was planted as a fruit orchard. Today, waders cool themselves in the plumes of waters and swirling pools that cascade through the smooth creekbed like waterslides. Open 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. $10 charge per car.

Dead Horse Ranch State Park
Located just 30 minutes from Canyon Villa Bed & Breakfast Inn of Sedona, Dead Horse Ranch State Park is one of only 20 similar riparian zones in the entire world. The 420-acre eco-system is home to a wide variety of wildlife including raptors, neotropical migrants, resident songbirds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Over 300 varieties of birds migrate here each year. The lagoons are stocked with different fish including large mouth bass. A great place for hiking, biking, fishing, and birding.
